Palm Sunday and George Foreman

An odd combination? Haven't heard too many Palm Sunday sermons featuring a story about George Foreman? At the age of 45 George stepped into the ring and won a World Heavyweight Championship. On the road into Jerusalem Jesus was heading for a battle--a battle for the ages.

Hope for the Suffering

The Mountain

Have you ever been to the top of a mountain? What do you remember the most?--the climb, the view from the top, or the descent? Jesus picked three very "human" disciples to accompany him to the top of the mountain. There they witnessed something that changed their perspective on who Jesus really is. They saw the "glory." Martin Luther King Jr. once said, "I've been to the mountain top." What about you? Check out today's message from the Scotch Ridge pulpit.

Four times in the sixth chapter of Matthew's gospel, Jesus insisted that we DO NOT WORRY. Worry can be devastating to a person mentally, physically, and spiritually. Today's message from the Scotch Ridge pulpit focuses on practical steps we can take to rid ourselves of worry.

And now the Oak Ridge Boys will sing the beautiful hymn, "God Will Take Care of You."

A New Direction

A lot of people avoid God because they relate God to a stuffy church service--singing the same old hymns and doing the same old things. In reality God is the most creative Force to experience and know. It is God's nature to do something new, something creative. That's why a decision to follow Christ will always lead you in a new direction. Check out today's message from the Scotch Ridge pulpit from the gospel of John 1:29-42.

A Christmas Escape

The joys of Christmas are often tempered by this dangerous world we live in. So was the case on that first Christmas 2000 years ago. God sent Joseph a message, and because Joseph had an ear attuned to God's voice, the holy family escaped the murderous trechery of King Herod. Check out this week's message from the Scotch Ridge pulpit followed by the beautiful hymn, Leaning on the Everlasting Arms--this rendition borrowed from the theme song of movie "True Grit."

Silent Joe

Joseph, the adoptive father of Jesus, does not have a line of dialogue in the gospel, yet provides for us one of the greatest examples of faith and obedience in scripture. Check out this week's message from the Scotch Ridge Presbyterian Church pulpit.

Surprise!

Elizabeth and Mary were surprised when they discovered they had conceived a child, both through extraordinary circumstances--Elizabeth after years of barrenness and Mary by the miraculous power of the Holy Spirit. Surprise! If you are a believer in Jesus Christ, then God has conceived his Son in you. Did you realize you had so much in common with Mary? Check out this week's message from the Scotch Ridge pulpit from Luke 1:39-56.

A Reason to Hope

End Time Opportunity

With wars, rumors of wars, earthquakes, floods, hurricanes, volcanos, meteors showers, and other disasters threatening to happen around the world, what should we do? Head for the bomb shelter and keep plenty of canned food on hand? Or, is there a door of opportunity opening before us. Check out this week's message from the Scotch Ridge pulpit.

Gambling with Souls

Why is it that some people are willing to gamble their souls that there is no resurection, judgement, or eternal life? They claim this life is it--we live and we die. Because they believe there is no afterlife or accountability for what they did on earth, they can live any way they want on earth. But what if they are wrong? What if the One who created will hold us accountable on judgement day? Then they have gambled away their most important possession--their souls. Here is today's message from Luke 20 as Jesus answers the Sadducess trick question about the resurrection.

Prayer Changes You

Persevering in prayer was important to Jesus. In a parable about a persistant woman and a corrupt judge, Jesus taught his disciples how persistant prayer changes things--especially the one doing the praying. Check out this week's message from the Scotch Ridge pulpit.

When God throws a brick at you, you better pay attention because he's trying to tell you something very important. If you remain spiritually insensitive, you will miss out on something very important. Check out this week's message from the Scotch Ridge pulpit from Luke 16:19-31.
