Surprise!

Elizabeth and Mary were surprised when they discovered they had conceived a child, both through extraordinary circumstances--Elizabeth after years of barrenness and Mary by the miraculous power of the Holy Spirit. Surprise! If you are a believer in Jesus Christ, then God has conceived his Son in you. Did you realize you had so much in common with Mary? Check out this week's message from the Scotch Ridge pulpit from Luke 1:39-56.

Gambling with Souls

Why is it that some people are willing to gamble their souls that there is no resurection, judgement, or eternal life? They claim this life is it--we live and we die. Because they believe there is no afterlife or accountability for what they did on earth, they can live any way they want on earth. But what if they are wrong? What if the One who created will hold us accountable on judgement day? Then they have gambled away their most important possession--their souls. Here is today's message from Luke 20 as Jesus answers the Sadducess trick question about the resurrection.

Entering the Promised Land

Moses had some important things to say to the Israelites before they entered the Promised Land. It all came down to choices they would make. Those decisions would bring blessing and prosperity or destruction and death. God calls us to enter into the Promised Land where we can experience abundant living in Christ. But we face the same choices. Here's today's message from the Scotch Ridge pulpit--Scripture text: Deutoronomy 30:11-20:

Freedom Fighters

It will be a bad day for hell and a good day for the church when believers exercise the spiritual authority bestowed upon them by the Lord. Then those bounded by chains of addiction, brokeness, and failure will delivered, lifted up, and set free. Today's message comes from Luke 10:1-20.

Living in Liberty

There is a battle that rages within each one of us. Our lower nature cries out for instant gratification to please SELF. This self-centered life results in many problems--physical, psychological, and relational. We fight back by trying to follow rules and regulations. But the Spirit knows the solution: freedom from our lower nature and freedom from the law. Listen to today's message from the Scotch Ridge pulpit to learn how to live in the liberty of Christ.

A Date with Deity

Little did John, Jesus' beloved disciple, know that his exile to the island of Patmos would result in the unveiling of the most prophetic book of the Bible--Revelation. But sometimes God speaks most deeply to us when we are in desperate situations. Here's Joe's sermon today from the pulpit of the Scotch Ridge Presbyterian Church.

I invited Leeland and Brandon Heath to join us and sing their powerful song, "Follow You." Actually I just embedded the song's video from YouTube, but still, give a listen because it's a great song.

Where Easter Begins

For Mary Magdalene Easter began on the darkest day of her life. In an instant her sorrow turned to joy and her darkness turned to light. Where does Easter begin for you? In difficult circumstances. In a time of confusion. During the sorrow of great loss. At a place where you least expect it Easter can begin for you. Check out Pastor Joe's Easter message from the pulpit of the Scotch Ridge Presbyterian Church.

Faces in the Crowd

There were many faces in the crowd the day Jesus rode the donkey into Jerusalem. Some objected to his arrival. Some feared his arrival. Others were curious. Many celebrated. Many just followed the crowd. But those whom he touched went on to form the church. Here's Joe's message on Palm Sunday from the pulpit of the Scotch Ridge Presybterian Church: Faces in the Crowd

An Extravagant Gift

Have you ever been broken open and poured out? Mary, the sister of Lazarus, offered an extravagant gift to Jesus, a pint of nard. She broke it open and poured it on him, thus preparing him for the cross and death. In doing so she demonstated for us what it means to be broken and poured out for Christ. Today's sermon text is John 12:1-11.

Finally, after more than a month of record snow we worshiped again at Scotch Ridge Presbyterian Church. Here's Joe's sermon, Deeper Waters. Sermon text: Luke 5:1-11
